A MBARE man allegedly raped his teenage niece at gunpoint and started living with her as his ‘wife,’ a Harare court heard over the weekend. Petros Kwaramba, 48, of Mbare National, was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate, Yeukai Dzuda, who remanded him in custody. The court heard that sometime in February last year, Kwaramba collected his niece from Juru and took her to Chivhu to stay with her grandmother. The court heard that on February 26 last year, he then took his niece to his home in Mbare, and jokingly told her that she was now his wife. Kwaramba allegedly went to bed and left the girl to sleep in the kitchen. It is alleged that around midnight, Kwaramba raped the girl at gunpoint and threatened to kill her if she ever revealed the incident. The court heard that after the incident, he locked her in the bedroom. The complainant would go to Chivhu, during the weekends, and Kwaramba repeatedly raped whenever she was back in Mbare. The matter came to light when the complainant’s mother returned from South Africa and she confided in her what she had endured during her absence. A report was then filed with the police leading to Kwaramba’s arrest.
